Technical Due Diligence

I have built a biotech venture from the ground up. Now I help investors understand what they are really funding.

What drives me is the space where rigorous science meets real commercial opportunity. Many of the most compelling inventions in biotech and food technology are genuinely excellent science, and yet that excellence rarely speaks for itself in an investment context. I bridge that gap, for investors who want to understand what they are truly backing.

About me

I am Dr. Gregor Tegl, a biochemical engineer and entrepreneur based in Vienna. I hold a PhD in Biotechnology and completed postdoctoral research at the University of British Columbia in Canada, where I worked on enzyme biocatalysis and the synthesis of complex biomolecules. That foundation gave me a genuine understanding of the biology and chemistry underneath the business claims.

In 2021 I co-founded Arkeon GmbH, a gas fermentation and alternative protein company. We built the team to 40 people, secured over €12M in venture and corporate funding, and established development agreements with major industry partners across the alternative protein and bioprocessing space. I know what scale-up actually costs, where fermentation models break down, and which technical claims tend not to survive first contact with reality.

I now work with investors, providing independent technical assessments on deals in biotech and food and foodtech.

Recent engagements include technical due diligence for early-stage VC funds across Europe, covering fermentation platform validation, techno-economic analysis, and scale-up risk assessment.

What I assess

Each engagement is scoped to your specific need, from a rapid technical sanity check before term sheet to a full platform validation ahead of a larger round.

Platform validation

Is the core science defensible, and do the technical claims hold up? I evaluate biological and chemical fundamentals, IP robustness, and whether the competitive moat is real or assumed.

Techno-economic analysis

Independent review of TEA models and fermentation KPIs benchmarked against industry standards. Having worked closely with these models throughout a venture's full lifecycle, I know where to look and which assumptions to challenge.

Scale-up and engineering risk

Assessment of the path from lab or pilot to commercial scale: where the bottlenecks are, what is plausible, and what is optimistic.

Regulatory pathway

Review of regulatory strategy and timeline realism for novel food, biotech, and ingredients companies, with a particular focus on EU and US markets.
